What is the Rib
Run? The Rib Run is a sponsored endurance journey by Ribs from Kinsale to Milford Haven in aid of the RNLI When does it take place? It begins in Kinsale on Thursday April 24th 2008 and finishes back in Kinsale on Sunday 27th at approx 1800hrs. If the weather is against us, the trip will take place two weeks later. Can I join in? Absolutely, as long as you, your crew and boat meet the criteria in the requirements page What does it cost? The costs to you are entrance fee, fuel, accommodation and spending money. Each boat is also asked to raise a minimum of 1500.00 in sponsorship. What safety equipment do I need? The criteria for safety equipment is as laid down by the RNLI Sea Check list. What is the last day for registration? Entries must be received by the 31st March 2008 Do you organise accommodation? No, but we do try and negotiate rates with local hotels and b&b's. we will also publish these venues and telephone numbers nearer the time. It is then YOUR responsibility to book. How do you keep in touch with me? Throughout this planning stage, a number of meetings will be held in Kinsale and you will be notified through these web pages, text and email. I have some offshore experience, but I'm still a little worried ? All participating Ribs will be split into groups of 4 or 5. Each group will have an experienced member as group leader. Each group will also have at least one qualified first aider. Your group will travel independantly of other groups and at the speed of the slowest in the group. You will meet up with other groups at designated waypoints. This is not a race and groups are made up of similar sized boats and experience. The Irish & HM Coastguards will be fully informed, and we are in regular communication with them during the voyage. What is the entrance fee and what is it for? The entrance fee is 50.00 per boat. This fee is to defray the organising costs such as printing, code flags and pilotage books for entrants. Any surplus left over is transferred into the charity fund. What do you expect from me? We would like you to have a high level of responsible seamanship, good navigation skills, VHF radio proficiency and be an all round "good egg". The trip is great fun and mighty craic is had both on the water and ashore, but we have to stress that safety is paramount and the Committee will not tolerate behaviour that compromises safety.
